Basketball recruiting | Morgan Park's Billy Garrett picks DePaul
DePaul assistant men's basketball coach Billy Garrett attends as many Public League games as anyone.

Now the Blue Demons will have two Billy Garretts trying to turn the Lincoln Park campus into a popular destination for the city's elite players once again.

The younger Garrett, a 6-foot-4 sophomore coming off of a breakthrough season for Morgan Park, unofficially became DePaul coach Oliver Purnell's first Public League recruit when he gave an oral commitment late Wednesday night.

"I've been talking it over with my family for a while," Garrett Jr. said. "I was going to do it eventually anyway, so might as well do it now.

"I can help them recruit. If we can get five players from the city, I think we could potentially go a long way in the NCAA tournament."

Morgan Park coach Nick Irvin said he would have liked to have seen Garrett go through the recruiting process, but he understood the situation.

"DePaul is a good situation for him, and I love Billy Garrett Sr.," Irvin said.
